Urgent message for all parents and carers

Crawley SC relies on volunteers to keep this club running smoothly. This enables the Club to keep its fees as low as possible which directly impacts each and every member that swims at Crawley SC.  Each and every one of your children benefit from the time and input from those volunteers.

Can we please ask that every family looks at how just one member can contribute some time towards the Club.  There are so many different roles and each volunteer can chose where they are best suited. This only involves a little bit of time for each person if we have sufficient volunteers.

On Friday, our Time Trials was in jeopardy as we found ourselves in a position where the equipment we hired form K2 was not working to a standard that we needed so we became reliant on manual timing which requires trained timekeepers and it was incredibly difficult to find parents with this, easy to gain, qualification.  With Club Championships coming up in June, we need more volunteers please. The volunteer roles within the club are filled by the same faces each and every time and those same people actually fulfil more than one role and many of those fabulous individuals are moving on to pastures new with children soon attending University.

Please come forward and do something great for your children who have so much to gain form a great Club like Crawley SC.

Please contact me directly and we can discuss what role is best suited for you. (roles include: Drinks and Sweets Monitor, Time Keeper, Team Manager, Officials, Committee Member, Electronics Team, Coaching, Teaching, Poolside Marshalls, Fundraising, Welfare, Website, Team App, Marketing, Sponsorship, Open Meets Organiser, Data Input for Meets, Announcing ……..and so many more)

Thank you for your time. I look forward to hearing from some new people.

Please see poster HERE from Sussex County which advertises some great courses to assist volunteers and clubs.

CP sport have developed the following survey that we would like completed by as many disabled and non disabled athletes as possible in order to understand their thoughts and opinions of the support that athletes with high dependency needs either receive or should receive while participating in sport.

Airtech Relay Gala - thank you!

Airtech Relay Gala

Saturday 9th June

I would like to say thank you to everyone for a very enjoyable gala in which we came seventh.

The swimmers achieved many PB’s - well done to all.

We must thank all officials and parents, many of whom helped for the first time in numerous positions, both on and off the poolside; without their help we would be unable to host this event.

A thank you also to the two senior and two junior swimmers. who came and supported our swimmers, making sure that they were in the correct place and doing the correct stroke in their races.

It was a pleasure being on the poolside, to enjoy the Team Spirit from all the swimmers, cheering on their team mates in all the relay events.

The noise from the balcony also showed how much parents were entering into the spirit of the gala and encouraging their teams during the races.

Thank you all

Liz Smith

‘B’ Gala co-ordinator.

New Head Coach

Crawley SC are pleased and excited to announce that our new head coach will be Will Philpot. This is a very important announcement for all of the swimmers, parents and everyone involved with the club.

Some brief background for anyone who doesn’t know Will:

Will previously worked (and swam) for Crawley SC in 2010 and 2011. Since 2013 through to now, he has been Head of Swimming at Cranleigh School. In 2016 he was also appointed Wye Valley Swimming Club Head Coach.

In April 2018 Will also worked with Guildford City Swimming Club as volunteer coach for the High Performance Youth Squad.

Will is also part of the SE Regional Coaching team, where some of our swimmers may have also come across him in the last 12 months.

Will has resigned his positions with Wye Valley, Cranleigh School and his voluntary role with Guildford City to become full time Head Coach with Crawley SC.

We plan to have a parents meeting on a Friday night prior to the official start date of 2nd January 2019. The parents meeting date is yet to be confirmed. This will give everyone a chance to meet Will and also for Will to have an introduction to all of the relevant squad swimmers.

After a number of years Crawley SC are in a position to not only plan for the future, but with this announcement, finally put in place a structure and strategy which will enable Crawley SC to grow as a club.

As previously announced, Ron will be stepping up as Director of Swimming. This move will allow Ron to take full responsibility for all aspects of the swimming program. In Ron’s own word’s ‘he feel’s like an uncaged animal’ and cannot wait to guide Crawley SC through these exciting times.

I’d also like to underline that Jason is still very much in place and will continue his great work with Gold, Silver and Bronze squads.

We would like to warmly welcome Will to the team and look forward to this exciting new chapter for everyone involved with Crawley SC.

Regards

Crawley SC Committee
